Dead Êzidî crosses the border but not alive

MARDİN – Êzidî Xidir Xelef’s body wanted to be sent to Sinjar from AFAD camp in Midyat after he lost his life. But authorities in Habur Border Gate didn’t allowed to Xelef’s family to cross to border.


Xidir Xelef (76) lost his life in Disaster and Emergence Menagment Presidency (AFAD) camp. Xelef had to move like other Êzidî from Fidanlık Camp which was opened by Yenişehir Municipality after appointed trustee closed it and forced to Êzidîs to move AFAD camp in Midyat-Mardin. Xelef’s mother,wife and doughter wanted to bring his body to burry in the ground of Sinjar due to Xelef’s last will. But authorities didn’t allow to family cross the border to go Iraq because of they have no passport. Police in the gate border said that except the Xelef’s body no one else can cross the border.


Thereupon Xelef’s son Rizgan Xidir called his relatives up who lives in Kurdistan Region of Iraq in Duho and relatives came to take Xelef’s body to bring to Sinjar. The family had to return to AFAD camp in Midyat without funeral ceremony of Xelef.


Rizgan Xidir told “ This implementation is oppression to us. We left our land because we had to. We run away from genocide. Still our six villages is seized by ISIL. We are waiting for Mosul Operation’s result and we go back our land as soon as possible” said on the phone call to dihaber.


Êzidîs had been forced to bring to AFAD camp after trustee was appointed to Yenişheir Municipality and closed the camp of Fidanlık. Êzidîs can’t take advantage from the health service because of there is no juridical status.
