İSTANBUL – co-workers of detained journalists asked to immediately released their colleagues and said “We will pick them up from here.”
Closed Dicle News Agency (DİHA) chief in editor Ömer Çelik, DİHA reporter Metin Yoksu, Etkin News Agency (ETHA) chief in editor Derya Okatan, Yolculuk Newspaper chief in editor Eray Sargın, Diken newspaper former editor Tuncay Öğreten and Birgün Newspaper worker Mahir Kanat was taken to courthouse after they were detained on December 25.
Numbers journalists gathered in front of the courthouse to make a statement to solidarity with their co-workers. Numbers of unionist representative attended to statement and also “ Freedom for journalists” banner unfurled and “ free press can’t be silenced” chanted together.
Closed DİHA reporter Necla Demir “ Metin Yoksu and Ömer Çelik are our co-workers for years. We don’t know wheter they will released or jailed but we wish them to be released and doing report again in here and everywhere” said.
